The experience

The three parks sit close enough that elephants, sloth bears, spotted deer and wild buffalo move between them depending on the day. Your tracker knows where the herds are heading and takes you to whichever park has the most activity when you arrive. You're not following a set route. The jeep goes where the animals are. Among the 24 resident mammal species you might see are grey langurs, purple-faced leaf monkeys, three mongoose species, porcupines and Indian pangolins, plus dozens of bird varieties.

A private 4x4 means you travel alone with your tracker and guide, who speaks English or German. The jeep is air-conditioned, and you get binoculars, bottled water, and fresh coconut and pineapple during the drive. Hotel pickup and drop-off are included, as are all park entry fees. The tracker is experienced in wildlife behavior and trained to keep you safe around large animals.

How long you stay is up to you: some visitors spend four hours, others stay all day. The tracker will keep looking for sightings as long as you want to be in the park. Pickup is available from Habarana, Dambulla or Sigiriya, depending on where you're staying.

What happens if we don't see many animals on the day we go?

Your tracker decides which of the three parks to visit based on recent animal activity and sightings. Because the parks are close and animals move between them, your tracker will take you where wildlife is most active that day.

Can we stay in the park longer than a few hours if we want to?

Yes. The tour has no time limit. You can stay and keep watching animals as long as you want. The tracker will continue looking for sightings for as long as you're interested.
