The experience

The tour starts at your hotel with pickup and moves through the tea-growing region around Nuwara Eliya. You visit two or three working tea factories where entrance is free. At each one you watch tea processing, taste the tea, and have the chance to buy directly from the source. Tea plucking happens in the fields nearby, so you see where the leaves come from before they reach the factory floor.

Ramboda Falls is the second half. The entrance fee is 50 cents per person. You can swim in the pool at the base, take photographs from the surrounding viewpoints, or simply stand under the water. The landscapes around the falls give you the kind of views the region is known for: mist, green hills, the way the water moves through the terrain.

Your guide speaks English and travels with you the whole time. Private transportation means the pace stays yours: you spend as long as you want at each factory or at the falls. The whole experience takes about five hours from pickup to return.
