The experience

Gangaramaya Temple, founded in the late 19th century by the scholar monk Hikkaduwe Sri Sumangala Nayaka Thera, sits at the heart of Colombo's spiritual life and has grown into a place of worship, learning and cultural events. Independence Square holds the Independence Memorial Hall, built to mark Sri Lanka's independence from British rule on February 4, 1948. The monument houses a museum and stands where the first parliament opened. Galle Face Green stretches 500 meters along the coast and was laid out in 1859 as a public promenade, though it once hosted horse racing, golf and cricket.

After the major sights, you have free time to shop at Laksala and other handicraft emporiums for souvenirs and locally made goods. Sri Lanka is known for gems and jewelry. The operator works with Gem Bureau–approved dealers if that interests you. A Sri Lankan lunch is included in the day. The Colombo National Museum, established in 1877, displays the country's cultural and natural heritage if you want to add it to your stops. The red and white Jami-Ul-Alfar Mosque, completed in 1909, is a distinctive landmark with Indo-Saracenic architecture that sailors once used to navigate into port.

Hotel pickup and drop-off are included, along with all taxes and fees. The tour runs about four hours and suits groups up to 15 people. A minimum of two people per booking is required.
