The experience
Nine days gives you time to move through Sri Lanka without rushing between stops. You travel in a private air-conditioned vehicle with the same driver throughout, who knows the locations and can adjust the pace if something catches your interest. The route starts at Sigiriya Rock Fortress (a UNESCO site where you climb the ancient stone structure and see the Mirror Wall and frescoes from the summit), then moves into Kandy for the Temple of the Sacred Tooth Relic, one of Buddhism's most sacred pilgrimage sites. A cultural dance show in Kandy rounds out the spiritual side of the journey.
The middle days take you into the hill country around Nuwara Eliya. You visit Ramboda Falls, which drops 109 meters through lush greenery, and stop at the Damro Labookellie Tea Centre to watch Ceylon tea being processed and taste it yourself. Gregory Lake and Victoria Park offer quieter moments in the highlands. From there, Ella brings you to Little Adam's Peak for panoramic views over tea plantations and valleys, the Nine Arches Bridge (a colonial-era railway viaduct), and Ravana Falls nearby.
The southern leg includes Yala National Park, the second-largest in the country, then Mirissa's coastal town with its Coconut Tree Hills and beaches. Galle Fort, a UNESCO site with Dutch and Portuguese architecture enclosed in ramparts, sits on the way back north. The final day covers Colombo's Gangaramaya Temple, Independence Square, and the Colombo National Museum before your driver takes you to the airport. Bottled water, WiFi on board, and all fuel, parking and taxes are covered. Your driver's accommodation and meals are included too.

Is this one for you?The nine-day length lets you cover the Cultural Triangle, highlands and coast without backtracking, and the private vehicle means you set the pace at each stop: linger at Sigiriya or the tea gardens, or move on if something doesn't hold your interest. A shared minibus tour would move faster and cost less. This one trades speed for flexibility and a dedicated driver who stays with you the whole way.

Top questions
What is Sigiriya Rock Fortress and why is it worth climbing?
Sigiriya Rock Fortress is a UNESCO World Heritage Site: an ancient stone fortress where you climb to the summit to see the Mirror Wall, intricate frescoes, and the Lion's Paw Terrace, a majestic staircase flanked by lion paws that once guarded the entrance. The views from the top and the historical significance make it one of Sri Lanka's most iconic stops.
Can I see wildlife in Yala National Park on this tour?
Yala National Park is the second-largest national park in Sri Lanka and features dense forests, open plains, and coastal lagoons with diverse ecosystems. The park is included in the itinerary so you can explore its natural wonders, though specific wildlife sightings depend on the day and season.
What happens in Kandy besides the temple visit?
In Kandy, you visit the Temple of the Sacred Tooth Relic, which houses a sacred relic of Lord Buddha and is one of the most important pilgrimage sites for Buddhists worldwide. The tour also includes a cultural dance show featuring traditional Kandyan, Sabaragamuwa, and Low Country dances with fire dancers and drummers.
How much walking is involved in the tea country section?
The Nuwara Eliya section includes stops at Ramboda Falls, the Damro Labookellie Tea Centre (where you walk through the tea factory and gardens), Victoria Park, and Gregory Lake. Most stops involve moderate walking. The pace is set by your driver and can be adjusted to suit you.
Is Galle Fort a significant historical site?
Galle Fort is a UNESCO World Heritage Site enclosed within sturdy ramparts, with narrow cobblestone streets, historic buildings, and Dutch and Portuguese colonial architecture. It sits on the coast with panoramic views of the Indian Ocean and represents Sri Lanka's maritime and colonial heritage.
What tea experience is included near Nuwara Eliya?
The Damro Labookellie Tea Centre and Tea Garden lets you witness the process of Ceylon tea production from plucking to processing, learn about tea cultivation and the region's estate history, and taste a variety of high-quality teas while enjoying views of the surrounding landscape.
