The Experience

We ducked under broad banana leaves just as the sun slipped out from behind a cloud — you could feel the air change, kind of heavy but sweet, almost like the smell after rain. Our guide (the finca owner, Juan — he introduced himself with a grin and muddy boots) waved us over to where tiny green bananas were clustered together. He snapped one off and handed it to me right there. I’d never tasted one that fresh — it was firmer than I expected, not too sweet, and somehow… greener? Hard to explain. The soil was still damp from last night’s drizzle, so my shoes picked up half the farm as we walked.
