The Experience
Your driver picks you up at your Seville hotel in an air-conditioned van and drives to Tarifa, where you board the ferry across the Strait of Gibraltar. The crossing gives you views of the coastline and takes you into Morocco. Once in Tangier, your private guide meets you and the day unfolds through the city's landmarks: Cape Spartel at the northwestern tip where the Mediterranean meets the Atlantic, the Caves of Hercules with their distinctive "Map of Africa" rock formation, and the Tangier Kasbah overlooking the old city. Between stops you walk through the medina—the narrow, winding streets of the market quarter where vendors sell Moroccan rugs, textiles, spices and ceramics.
The camel ride happens on Achakkar Beach, a quiet stretch of sand near Tangier where you ride along the shore with views of the Mediterranean. Lunch is at Place 9 Avril, a central square in the city where you eat at a local restaurant and watch the rhythm of Tangier around you. You also visit Parc Perdicaris for views of the Mediterranean and the Synagogue Moshe Nahon, a historic site in the Jewish quarter. The American Legation, a former U.S. diplomatic mission, is another stop on the cultural route through the city.
The return ferry leaves Tarifa in the late afternoon, and your driver takes you back to your hotel in Seville. The whole day runs 8 to 10 hours. Coffee and tea are provided during the tour. Your guide speaks English, Spanish, Italian or French—you choose when you book.
