The Experience

The drive southeast from Seville takes you into the Sierra de Grazalema Natural Park, a UNESCO Biosphere Reserve in Cadiz province where some of Europe's oldest forests still grow. Your first stop is Zahara de la Sierra, where you walk through narrow streets and climb to a viewpoint that opens onto the mountain landscape. The stop is short enough to grab a snack if you want one, but long enough to stand still and look.

From there the route heads to Setenil de las Bodegas, a village built into the rock itself—houses carved directly into the cliff face, with stone overhead instead of a roof. You have time to walk through it, taste the local wines and sit down for a meal if the timing works. The architecture is the draw here; the village is small and the streets are narrow, so you move at your own pace once you arrive.

Ronda is the main event. The guide walks you through the Alameda del Tagus, the bullring and the New Bridge, which splits the city into two halves and is the landmark most people come for. After that introduction you get free time to wander the shopping area, visit any of the monuments on your own, or find a restaurant for lunch. The nine-hour total includes all the driving and the stops; the actual time in each village is yours to spend.

Top questions

How much walking is involved in each village?

Zahara de la Sierra has a short walk through its streets and up to a viewpoint; Setenil de las Bodegas is a leisurely stroll through the village center; Ronda includes a guided walk through the main landmarks, then free time to explore further or rest. All areas are on foot once you arrive, and the surfaces are accessible.

Is lunch included, and where do we eat?

Lunch is not included in the tour price. Each stop has time to eat in local bars and restaurants—Zahara has cafes for a snack, Setenil and Ronda both have many dining options to choose from. You pick where and what you want.

What is the Sierra de Grazalema, and why do we pass through it?

The Sierra de Grazalema is a UNESCO Biosphere Reserve in Cadiz province that contains some of Europe's oldest forests, including the pinsapar—a species of spruce that survived the last ice ages. The route passes through it because Zahara de la Sierra sits within this protected landscape, and the mountain views from the village are part of what makes the stop worth the drive.

Can I bring young children or a baby on this tour?

Children from age one are welcome. Specialized infant seats are available, and infants can travel in a pram or stroller. The vehicle is air-conditioned and wheelchair accessible, and all areas you visit are accessible as well.

What time does the tour leave Seville, and when do we return?

The tour runs for nine hours total and includes hotel pickup in Seville. The exact departure time depends on your hotel location and the option you book; confirm the pickup window when you reserve.

Is the guide with us the whole time, or only at certain stops?

A live guide in English or Spanish travels with the group throughout the nine hours, introducing each village and the landmarks in Ronda. During the free time in each location, you can explore on your own or stay with the group.
