The experience

Most visitors spend their first morning in Seville lost between the Cathedral and the river, unsure which way leads where. This tour skips that part. You start inside Seville Cathedral itself, where La Giralda rises above you. The minaret-turned-bell-tower that's been the city's skyline anchor since the 12th century. Your guide walks you through the Islamic geometry underneath the Christian additions, which is the whole story of Seville compressed into stone. Then you move through Barrio de Santa Cruz on foot, the narrow streets where you'd normally turn around twice looking for the main square.

After Santa Cruz comes María Luisa Park and Plaza de España, which stops most people mid-stride. It's the kind of symmetrical, terracotta-tiled plaza that photographs don't prepare you for. The scale is deliberate, almost overwhelming. You're there for maybe thirty minutes, long enough to feel the space without getting stuck in it. Then the Guadalquivir River cruise picks up the pace. The boat leaves from Muelle de San Telmo and drifts past the city's riverside edge for about an hour, which is when Seville actually starts to make sense as a place. You see how the neighborhoods sit against the water, how the light changes on the Cathedral from the river side.

The tour ends in Triana, the neighborhood across the water where flamenco lives and ceramics shops still do business the way they did fifty years ago. You're left there to wander Mercado de Triana on your own, which means you can linger over a coffee or skip it entirely and head back to your hotel. The guide doesn't follow you into Triana: that part is yours. The whole experience runs four hours, which is long enough to see the main sights without feeling rushed, short enough that you're not exhausted by lunch.
