The experience
Four hours covers the walking tour, the market stop, and the meal itself: enough time to move through the Old Town without rushing, pick ingredients with locals, and sit down to eat without feeling squeezed. The guide is yours alone, and so is the cook. Nothing here is shared with other groups. Hotel pickup and drop-off are built in, so you don't navigate to the start or figure out how to get back.
The market walk is not a sightseeing pass-through. You stop to buy seasonal Basque products with the guide. The things that will go into your meal. Then you move to the Sociedad Gastrónomica, the private cooking club, where the cook prepares what you selected while you watch from the dining area. Txakoli, Rioja red wines and cider flow throughout. The meal itself runs to starters, a Basque-style fish or meat course, and Basque cake. This is the part most visitors to San Sebastián never see: the inside of a club that has operated on the same principle for generations, where the kitchen belongs to the men who cook and the table belongs to everyone who eats.
The guide speaks English or Spanish, and the experience suits any fitness level. Minimum age is 18 because wine and beer are part of the meal. Gratuities are not included in the price.

Is this one for you?Four hours leaves the rest of your day open for other neighborhoods or museums, but not enough to add a second major activity. Book this if you want the food and the club itself to be the main event, not a stop between other things.

Top questions
What languages is the tour guided in?
Live guide in English and Spanish.
What is a Sociedad Gastrónomica and why can't women cook in one?
A Sociedad Gastrónomica is a private men's cooking club, a Basque tradition born when men wanted a space to cook and gather outside the home. The founding rule (men cook, women are served) still stands in most clubs today. You enter as a guest of the club and experience the meal from the dining side of that boundary.
Do I pick the ingredients myself or does the guide choose them?
You and the guide walk the market together and buy seasonal Basque products together. The guide knows what is fresh and what works, so it is a collaboration, not a solo shop.
What kind of food will I eat?
Basque traditional starters, a main course of either fish or meat prepared Basque-style, and Basque cake. Everything is seasonal and based on what you found at the market that morning or afternoon.
Is this tour lunch or dinner?
The tour can run as either lunch or dinner depending on what you book. The timing and the meal itself stay the same. You choose which fits your day.
What drinks are included?
Txakoli (a local white wine), Rioja red wines, cider, beers, and soft drinks are all included throughout the experience.
