The experience
You're picked up from your Valencia accommodation and driven to Calpe, a coastal town where the hike begins. The ascent to Peñon de Ifach, also called the Valencian Gibraltar, is the centerpiece of the day. The climb is steep and sustained, but the payoff is a 360-degree view from the peak: the Sierra Gelada mountains to the south, the Bay of Valencia stretching north, and on clear days, the Balearic Islands breaking the horizon. Your guide, with more than 30 years of mountain experience across Spain, points out the landmarks and paces the group so everyone reaches the top.
After descending, you head to Altea, a whitewashed village perched on the coast a short drive away. The second half of the day shifts from hiking to wandering. You walk the narrow streets lined with white-painted houses, the kind of place where the architecture itself slows you down. The guide leads you to a terrace where you can order a drink or sample the Mediterranean gastronomy the region is known for: fresh seafood, local wines, the food that comes from living on this coast. There's no rush. This is where the cultural and gastronomic part of the day unfolds.
Coffee or tea is provided at the start, and the full day runs between eight and ten hours. The guide speaks English, Spanish or German depending on the group, and pickup from your Valencia hotel is included in the booking.

Is this one for you?The hike demands a moderate fitness level and sustained climbing, so it suits travelers who are comfortable with steep terrain and want the physical challenge as part of the experience. The eight to ten hour commitment leaves room for both the mountain and the village, making it a full-day immersion rather than a quick summit-and-return.

What is Peñon de Ifach and why is the view from the top worth the climb?
Peñon de Ifach, also called the Valencian Gibraltar, is a dramatic rocky peak rising from the coast at Calpe. From the summit you see the entire coastline from the Sierra Gelada in the south to the Bay of Valencia in the north, and on clear days the Balearic Islands appear on the horizon: a view that spans both the local geography and across the sea.
How difficult is the hike up Peñon de Ifach?
The ascent is steep and sustained, so you need at least a moderate level of physical fitness. The guide sets the pace for the group, and the climb is the main physical demand of the day. The second half in Altea is walking through village streets at a leisurely pace.
What happens in Altea after the hike?
After descending from Peñon de Ifach, you drive to Altea and walk through its narrow streets lined with white houses. The guide takes you to a terrace where you can order a drink or try Mediterranean food and seafood. This is the gastronomic part of the experience, with time to sit and enjoy it.

The tour is not recommended for travelers with spinal injuries, poor cardiovascular health, or pregnancy, because of the steep climbing involved. If you have questions about your fitness for the hike, contact the guide before booking.
What's included and what should I bring?
Pickup from your Valencia hotel, a live guide in English, Spanish or German, and coffee or tea are included. Wear hiking boots or sturdy shoes, bring water, sun protection and a light layer for the peak, where wind can pick up even on warm days.
