The hanging bridges span across a working river, not a ravine.

A private full-day hike from Valencia to Chulilla Canyon combines a mountain trail through cliffs, gorges and valleys with a visit to the village perched on top. You choose the route length (2, 3, or 4 hours), and your guide speaks English or Spanish. The trail crosses hanging bridges, passes a reservoir, and ends with free time in Chulilla's village square or at the castle ruins overlooking the canyon.

Step-by-step itinerary

Hike and explore Chulilla village

  • Walk the canyon trail along river Turia
  • Explore Chulilla village and castle ruins

The experience

You're picked up from Valencia and driven 50 minutes to the trailhead. The hike itself follows the river Turia through a canyon carved by 80-meter vertical cliffs, with gorges, valleys and the hanging bridges woven into the route. A reservoir sits along the way. The trail is not a loop unless you choose the full 4-hour version. Shorter options of 2 or 3 hours still hit the main sights but backtrack instead of circling. Difficulty scales with length: the shorter routes are low-impact, the full loop is medium.

After the hike, you have free time in Chulilla village itself, which sits on the cliff edge above the canyon you just walked. The village square has cafés where you can rest, or you can climb to the castle ruins for views back over the terrain. Parking fees are covered. Bring at least a liter of water and a morning snack, and wear footwear with good grip since sections of the trail are uneven. Lunch is your choice: eat at a local restaurant in the village or pack your own.

The tour runs 7 to 8 hours total from pickup to drop-off. Your guide is a native English speaker and can also conduct the tour in Spanish. The route works for families with children from age 8 onward, though the operator notes it is not suitable for travelers with spinal injuries, pregnancy, or cardiovascular concerns, and a moderate fitness level helps.

The guide speaks English natively, which matters if you want to understand the geology and history of the canyon as you walk it.
