Mallorca Scuba Diving Intro: PADI Discover Certification
You practice every skill in shallow water before going deeper, so nothing catches you off guard underwater.
The Discover Scuba Diving program in Mallorca is a guided introduction to diving for beginners with no prior experience, held in a protected marine reserve at a maximum depth of 6 meters. You complete a briefing and practice essential skills—breathing underwater, equalizing your ears, clearing your mask, basic hand signals—in shallow water at your own pace before the dive itself. On successful completion, you receive an official PADI Discover Scuba Diving certificate, which may be credited toward a PADI Open Water Diver course. A completed PADI Medical Questionnaire is mandatory before the day; depending on your answers, medical clearance may be required.
The Experience
Entry is from shore via easy steps, designed for first-time divers. Before you descend, a qualified instructor walks you through a short briefing and has you practice the core techniques in shallow water—how to breathe calmly below the surface, how to equalize pressure in your ears, how to clear water from your mask if it floods, and the hand signals divers use to communicate. All of this happens slowly and at your own pace, so you build confidence before the actual dive. The protected area keeps the maximum depth to 6 meters, which means you explore the underwater world safely and without the pressure of going deep.
The dive itself lasts around 3.5 hours total, including the briefing, practice, and time in the water. Equipment, the marine reserve fee, transport to the diving spot, insurance, and a guide are all included. You'll see the marine wildlife that surrounds Mallorca—different species of fish, plants and other creatures in the reserve. The guide stays with you throughout, and because the group is small and the environment controlled, you can focus on the experience rather than on managing logistics or worrying about what comes next.
Bring swimwear, a towel, a change of clothes and something to drink. Arrive 30 minutes early at the pickup point (Ctra Arenal 48, 07600). The dive should happen at least 12 hours before any flight you have scheduled. You'll need to bring your ID card or passport. The PADI Medical Questionnaire is mandatory; if your answers indicate any condition that requires clearance—age over 45, smoking, any medication except birth control pills, or certain health concerns—you must obtain a doctor's certificate before the day. No medical clearance can be arranged on-site, and participation without one when required means no refund.

Is this one for you?You do the diving yourself with an instructor at your side, not watching from a boat or classroom—the guided format means you learn by doing in a controlled environment, which suits anyone curious about diving but nervous about going it alone. The shallow 6-meter depth and shore entry make it accessible for first-timers and children from age 10, while the small group size and calm pace mean you're never rushed.
