The experience

You start at Plaza de Oriente, right next to the Royal Palace, where the tuk tuk picks you up from the underground bus station. The vehicle is small and nimble enough to navigate Madrid's central streets without the noise or emissions of a regular tour bus, and because it seats only your group, you're not waiting for strangers or stopping for people you don't know. The guide drives and narrates at once, pointing out the Basilica of San Francisco el Grande, the Almudena Cathedral (consecrated by Pope John Paul II in 1993), and the Royal Palace itself as you move through the historic center.

The route depends on which option you book. The 60-minute Express Tour stops at the Arabian Wall. The 120-minute Tour Welcome adds the Temple of Debod, an ancient Egyptian structure relocated to Madrid and now set on a high overlooking the city. The longer Expert Tour (3 hours) and Expert Tour Plus (4 hours) expand the route to include the Prado Museum, Cibeles Fountain (where Real Madrid fans celebrate victories), the Cortes district, and the gardens of Campo del Moro. Each stop is pre-set for photography, so you know where the tuk tuk will pause and for how long. The stops don't change, and the route is fixed by legal regulation: transfers outside the planned route aren't allowed.

The tuk tuk itself is the difference. It's electric and open-air, so you feel the city as you move through it, but you're not exposed: blankets and protective layers shield you from rain and wind. There's no trunk, so you can't bring strollers, wheelchairs or large luggage, and pets aren't allowed. The pickup point is at Calle Bailén 4 (search "Puerta del Príncipe" on Google Maps for the exact spot), accessible by stairs or by elevator if you call ahead. If you're delayed more than 15 minutes, the tour is cancelled with no refund. Shorter delays mean the route shrinks to fit the time you have left.

The Temple of Debod is an ancient Egyptian building, originally constructed in Egypt and later relocated to Madrid, where it now stands on a high near Paseo del Pintor Rosales. It's included on the 120-minute Tour Welcome and the longer options, and it's one of the most photographed stops on the route.

Do I need to buy separate tickets to enter the monuments we pass?

No tickets to the monuments are included in any of the four tour options. The tuk tuk stops at the exteriors and notable public spaces (the Royal Palace, Cibeles Fountain, Alcalá Gate, San Miguel Market), so you see them without entering. If you want to go inside the Prado Museum or the cathedrals, you'd arrange that separately.

Can I bring a stroller or large luggage on the tuk tuk?

Where do I meet the tuk tuk, and how do I find the pickup point?
