You paddle to a castle, not toward one from a distance.

Kayak a 5 km route along the Playa Blanca coastline in Lanzarote with a certified guide who speaks Spanish, English, Italian or French. You paddle roughly 3 km out to Castillo del Aguila, take a break at the landmark, then paddle back to the starting point over about 2.5 hours. Lifejacket and all equipment are provided; the activity suits families, couples and groups, and children can join from age 4. Moderate fitness helps, and the experience is not recommended for pregnant travelers.

The Experience

Five kilometers of coastline, paddled at your own pace with a guide who handles the route and the safety briefing before you leave shore. The paddle out to Castillo del Aguila takes roughly 3 km — you're moving toward an actual landmark, not just open water — and the break there gives you time to float and look back at where you started. The return follows the same line, so the day has a shape: departure, destination, return.

You operate the kayak yourself, which is the whole point. The guide leads from their own boat, watches the group, and knows the water; you decide how hard you're paddling and how you want to sit in the moment. Equipment — lifejacket, paddle, kayak — is there waiting. The route works for families with children from age 4 onward, and for people who have never paddled before, as long as you can manage moderate physical effort over a couple of hours. The guide speaks Spanish, English, Italian or French, so the safety briefing and any questions along the way happen in your language.

Playa Blanca sits on the southern coast of Lanzarote, and public transportation reaches it if you're not renting a car. The meeting point is the beach itself, so you arrive, find the guide, get briefed, and paddle. No transfer is arranged, but the town has bus connections and is walkable from most hotels in the area.
