Namhansanseong Fortress & Korean Folk Village Private Tour
Walk the fortress walls that once defended Seoul, then step into a living Joseon village.
A private tour from Seoul hotels to Namhansanseong Fortress, a UNESCO-protected site 24km southeast of the city, and Korean Folk Village, a reconstructed Joseon-era settlement with relocated historic houses. The day includes hotel pickup and dropoff, an English-speaking guide, Korean traditional lunch, and live performances—farmers' music and dancing, acrobatic rope shows, and horse martial arts—staged throughout the folk village. The fortress itself spans 12km of trails along Namhansan Mountain, with stone walls stacked over natural terrain; the folk village occupies 990,000 square meters and recreates everyday life from centuries past, including government offices, temples, medical institutions and fortune-tellers' quarters.

The Experience
The tour starts with pickup from your Seoul hotel and a drive to Namhansanseong Fortress, one of four defensive forts built to protect Hanyang, the former name of Seoul. The fortress sits on Namhansan Mountain, 24km southeast of the city, and its walls—stacked small stones over large ones—run approximately 12km around the perimeter. Walking the main fortress trail (8.9km) or the external fortress route (3.2km) lets you move at your own pace along the stone ramparts; the guide explains the fortress's role in Korean history, its architecture, and the wells and springs that sustained it during sieges. The site also contains the remains of a temporary palace, government offices and storage buildings, all visible as you walk.
After the fortress, you head to Korean Folk Village, a 990,000-square-meter open-air museum built from real houses relocated from across the Joseon period. The village recreates everyday life—aristocrats' homes and commoners' houses stand side by side, along with a provincial government office, Buddhist temples, educational institutes, a medical clinic and a fortune-teller's quarters. Korean traditional lunch is served during the visit, and you'll watch live performances staged throughout the day: farmers' music and dancing, traditional acrobatic rope shows, and horse martial arts demonstrations. These performances run continuously, so you can move through the village and catch them as you encounter them.
Your English-speaking driver guides the entire day, sharing information about Korean politics, religion, society, culture and nature as you travel between sites. The vehicle is air-conditioned, and the tour is designed for one private group, so the pace and stops are yours to shape. Pickup and dropoff happen at your Seoul-area hotel, and the full day runs 8 to 9 hours.
