The experience

You're strapped in next to an instructor who has done this hundreds of times, and you're thinking: this is actually happening. The hike up Lion's Head or the short walk from Signal Hill parking takes maybe twenty minutes, and then you're standing at the edge looking down at the whole city: Sea Point spreading out below, the Twelve Apostles ridge running east, Clifton's beaches tiny and perfect.
