What’s included

Your day includes an introductory tandem paragliding flight with a licensed instructor launching from Signal Hill or Lion’s Head (weather depending), plus return transport from Sea Point landing back up to takeoff point — so you don’t have to worry about getting back after your flight.

I didn’t really believe I’d go through with tandem paragliding over Cape Town until I was actually standing on Signal Hill, wind tugging at my sleeves and Table Mountain kind of looming behind me. My instructor, Walter (who’s been doing this for more than 20 years, which helped my nerves), checked the lines while chatting about the weather — apparently, it changes everything. He laughed when I asked if people ever chicken out at the last second. “Sometimes,” he said, “but not today.” The air smelled like dry grass and sunscreen, and there was this salty breeze coming off the sea that made everything feel sharper.

The actual takeoff happened so fast I barely had time to think — one moment we were jogging, then suddenly my feet weren’t touching anything. You get this weird quiet up there above Cape Town; just the wind in your ears and the city spread out below like a map. I could see Lion’s Head off to one side and all those tiny cars crawling along Sea Point. Walter pointed out Robben Island way out in the blue haze. It wasn’t scary, honestly — more like floating than falling. He asked if I wanted to try steering for a second (I did, badly), and we both cracked up when I nearly turned us sideways.

The landing was down by the ocean — you can actually smell the sea before you even touch down. My legs felt wobbly but in a good way, like after a rollercoaster. There were other people waiting their turn, some looking nervous, others just grinning at their phones. We got a ride back up to Signal Hill included in the price, which saved me from figuring out Cape Town taxis again (don’t ask). Later that night I kept replaying that view over the city in my head — it sticks with you.
