The Experience

The tour opens in Bokaap, where the colored houses and Cape Malay heritage set the frame for understanding how Cape Town came to be. From there you move to the Slave Lodge, a museum housed in a building that once held enslaved people and now documents the colonization and slavery that shaped the region. The Company Gardens and St. George's Cathedral—where Bishop Desmond Tutu's remains are interred—anchor the spiritual and political weight of the day. Green Market Square is a working African craft market where your guide helps you navigate vendors and find deals on local work.

The Long Walk to Freedom bronze sculpture museum holds over a hundred statues of South African independence heroes, giving depth to the country's anti-apartheid struggle. A scenic drive then takes you through Greenpoint, Seapoint, Bantry Bay, Clifton and Camps Bay—the affluent coastal suburbs that show another face of the city. At Cape Town Diamond Works, you watch jewellers cut and polish stones and can buy directly from the manufacturer. The tour ends at Table Mountain, one of the seven wonders of the world; a cable car ride of 5 to 7 minutes carries you to the top.
