The experience

Your guide arrives at your hotel lobby at 6 pm and drives you to Gardens by the Bay, where the evening light hits the Flower Dome: a 101-hectare nature park built on reclaimed land in central Singapore. The Flower Dome itself spans 54 hectares and holds the Guinness World Record as the largest glass greenhouse in the world. Inside, you move through changing displays of flowers and plants from Mediterranean and semi-arid regions, the glass structure framing the night around you.

From there you enter the Cloud Forest, a separate conservatory where mist hangs over a mountain landscape filled with rare plants and hidden floral specimens. The guide explains what you're seeing: the vegetation, the endangered species, the ecosystems disappearing elsewhere. Then the tour moves to Marina Barrage, Singapore's largest reservoir, before heading to Clarke Quay on the river.

At Clarke Quay you board a bumboat (the traditional wooden boats that have carried people along Singapore River for decades), and drift past the colonial architecture, the old godowns, and the modern skyline reflected in the water.
