The experience

"The animals come alive when the sun goes down. That's when you really see them," our guide said as the tram pulled away from the station at dusk. The Singapore Night Safari isn't like a regular zoo visit during the day. It's the world's first nocturnal wildlife park, and it operates on completely different rhythms. The park opens at 6:30 PM and runs until midnight, with last entry at 11:15 PM. You board a guided tram that loops through six distinct wildlife zones, each one designed so the animals behave naturally in low light: elephants, tapirs, fishing cats, leopards, and wallabies all move differently once darkness falls.

The tram ride itself is hop-on, hop-off, so you're not locked into a single route. Between tram stops, there are walking trails where you can get closer to the enclosures and read keeper talks happening throughout the evening. The "Creatures of the Night" presentation is the centerpiece. It's a live show where the park's residents demonstrate their nocturnal behaviors, and you need to reserve a seat up to 2 hours before showtime. If you're combining the Night Safari with another Mandai Wildlife Reserve attraction (Singapore Zoo, River Wonders, Bird Paradise, or Rainforest Wild Adventure), those open during the day, so you'd visit them first and come back for the evening tram ride.
