The experience
The trail is built around what moves and hunts when the sun goes down. You walk a maintained path with a guide and torchlight, keeping watch for the giant forest ants that define this forest, then the spotted scorpion, huntsman spiders in their webs, pill millipedes crossing the ground, and native snakes. The guide knows where to pause and what to listen for: the forest sounds different at night, and the creatures behave differently too.
Amphibians shelter in the leaf litter and low vegetation. If you're patient, you'll see them. The rarer sightings (a lesser mouse deer or a colugo gliding between trees) are possible but not guaranteed, which is what makes the second hour of the walk worth staying alert. The torchlight cuts through the dark but doesn't wash out the smaller movements. Your guide will point out what your eyes might miss.
