The Experience

The Flower Dome alone stops you cold — you walk in and suddenly there's no Singapore humidity, no crowds outside, just this enormous greenhouse full of plants you've never seen before. The scale of it hits different when you're standing inside rather than looking at photos. That's the thing about Gardens by the Bay: the pictures don't prepare you for how tall those Supertrees actually are, or how the air changes when you step into the Cloud Forest and realize there's a 35-meter waterfall right there, dropping down in front of you like something from another planet.

If you go for the Cloud Forest option, you're walking through a landscape that feels nothing like Singapore at all — vegetation from 2,000 meters above sea level, mist hanging in the air, that waterfall creating its own weather. The Flower Dome opens at 9am and stays open until 9pm (last entry 8:30pm), so you can time your visit around the rest of your day. The Cloud Forest runs the same hours but closes entry at 8pm. There's also the Supertree Observatory if you want to climb up and see the whole garden from above, or the Flight of the Moth Orchid display if you're into that kind of thing — it's a cascading arrangement of orchids that takes up an entire wall.

Getting in is straightforward: you've got your e-ticket on your phone, no printing needed, and the place is wheelchair accessible throughout (they rent wheelchairs for S$2 a day if you need one). The gardens are near public transport, so you don't need a car. Wear casual clothes — it's climate-controlled inside the domes but warm outside. One thing to know: check the closure dates before you go. The Flower Dome, Cloud Forest, and Supertree Observatory each have their own maintenance schedule, and if you show up on a closure date, that section won't be open. If your ticket hasn't been scanned yet, you can use it another day, but once it's scanned, it's done.
