The experience
We barely left the city lights behind when the air changed: warm, a little dusty, but somehow softer than I expected. Our driver, Khalid, grinned in the rearview and promised we’d “wake up” soon. I tried riding a camel for maybe ten minutes before admitting defeat. They’re taller than they look and have this slow, lurching rhythm that made me feel both regal and ridiculous. The handler gave me this patient smile (he must see tourists wobble every day), and handed me sweet tea in a tiny glass after I climbed down. It tasted earthy and hot, with just enough sugar to cut through the dry air.
