The experience
You get picked up from MIA Park and driven south toward Mesaieed, where the desert landscape opens up. The first part is dune bashing: the vehicle climbs and drops across the sand dunes in a series of sharp angles that feel like a ride. You'll stop for photos as the light changes, and if you've booked the camel ride option, you'll mount and walk through the dunes at a slower pace, feeling the shift from speed to stillness. Sandboarding is part of the run too, so you can try sliding down the dunes on a board if you want.
The route ends at Inland Sea Beach, a narrow strip of turquoise water where the dunes actually cascade into the Arabian Gulf: one of the few places in the world where that happens. You'll have time to swim, wade or just stand in the water and look back at the sand wall you came down. The beach is quiet and the water is clear enough that the contrast with the desert behind it is the whole point of the stop.
The vehicle is air-conditioned and the guide speaks English throughout. You'll get bottled water and tea or coffee during the tour. If you're traveling with infants, they sit on an adult's lap. The whole experience runs between 3 and 4 hours before you're dropped back at MIA Park.
