The experience

The tour opens in Doha proper, starting at the Corniche: the waterfront promenade that runs along the Persian Gulf with views of the city's modern skyline. From there you move through the cultural heart: Souq Waqif, the historic marketplace in the old quarter where narrow alleys branch between stalls selling spices, textiles and handicrafts, then Katara Cultural Village on the shore, which houses galleries, theaters and open-air performance spaces. You also see The Pearl-Qatar, the man-made island with its Venetian-inspired Qanat Quartier district of canals and cafes, and Lusail City to the north, a waterfront development built around futuristic architecture including the Moon Tower.

In the late afternoon the focus shifts to the desert. You travel into the dunes surrounding Doha for dune bashing (the vehicle navigates the sandy terrain at speed), and camel riding across the landscape. Sandboarding is also available. The guide handles the driving and explains what you're seeing. Tea and bottled water come with the tour. The day ends with a return to your hotel or starting point.
