The experience

The tour picks you up around 6pm from Doha or the suburbs and drives an hour to Sealine beach, where you ride a camel and drink hot tea in an Arabic tent. Then the group heads inland over the dunes in a 4x4, stopping at Desert Meet the Sea to watch the purple dusk settle in. The light holds long enough to see the horizon shift color before dark.

Once it's night, the safari goes deeper into the desert. You lie on sand beds and stargaze while your guide points out what's overhead. The pace is slow here: no rushing between stops. Sandboarding is optional if you want to test your fitness on the slopes, but it's not mandatory. Dune bashing and off-road driving fill the gaps between the bigger moments, and your guide steers the vehicle.
