You start in Ponta Delgada with a small city tour to ground yourself in the island's architecture and culture, then head north along the coast toward the Nordeste. The route passes through Achadinha village and climbs to Salto do Cavalo, a viewpoint where the Furnas valley and its lake open below you. This is the famous sight the tour is built around, and it sits at the edge of the oldest mountains on the island. From there you drop into Ribeira dos Caldeirões to see the traditional water mills still fed by waterfalls, the kind that shaped the region's economy for centuries.

Nordeste village itself is small and removed from the main tourist routes. You walk through to the Arnel Lithhouse viewpoint and visit a wheat museum that houses old threshing equipment powered by water. The museum is modest but holds the working history of how people lived here. You also stop at Ponta da Madrugada viewpoint before heading south toward Povoação, the island's first settlement, where the original house and church remain standing. The return route follows the Furnas valley and the south coast back to Ponta Delgada, so you see both sides of the island in a single afternoon.
