The Experience

You start at your hotel or at Hard Rock Cafe in central Lisbon, wherever works for your arrival. The guide meets you there, and you climb into an open-sided electric tuk-tuk: a three-wheeled vehicle that moves through the city's tight medieval lanes and steep hills without the bulk of a car. The transparent roof stays open unless the weather turns. Blankets are on board. A maximum of six people fit per vehicle, so it stays intimate even when you're not traveling alone.

The route is yours to shape. Most travelers start in the Baixa District's grand squares (Rossio and Restauradores), then head into Alfama, where narrow streets wind uphill past laundry lines and small cafés, and the guide explains why the neighborhood survived the 1755 earthquake when so much of the city didn't.
