Step-by-step itinerary

Explore Lagos and Sagres highlights

  • Free time in Lagos city
  • Visit Santo António Church
  • Explore Lagos Old Town and Marina
  • Visit Ponta da Piedade rock formations
  • Panoramic stop for photos in Sagres
  • Watch sunset at Cape St. Vincent

The experience

The tour starts with pickup and a drive to Lagos, where you have two hours to wander the Old Town, visit the Church of Santo António with its gilded interior carvings and tiles, or walk along the marina. From there, the guide takes you to Ponta da Piedade, a headland of yellow-golden cliffs rising up to 20 meters above the water. A small harbor sits at the base of the steps, and the rocks themselves are the reason most visitors come to this part of the Algarve. You'll have time to walk around the lighthouse and take photographs before moving on.

The route continues with a panoramic stop in Sagres for photos, then heads to Cape St. Vincent, the southwestern point of Portugal and mainland Europe. The 28-meter lighthouse stands at the edge of the headland, and this is where the tour ends: timed so you're there as the sun sets. Hundreds of people gather here each evening for the same reason: the light hits the cliffs and the Atlantic in a way that only happens at that hour, and the sound of waves against the rocks carries across the promontory. The whole tour runs about five hours from pickup to drop-off.

A live guide in your chosen language (English, Portuguese or French) travels with you throughout, and the vehicle is air-conditioned. The tour does not include entrance fees to any monuments or museums, or food and drinks. Those are on you if you want them during the free time in Lagos.

What’s included

  • Pickup and drop-off service from your hotel.
  • air-conditioned vehicle for the entire tour.
  • a live guide in English, Portuguese or French.
  • two hours free time in Lagos to explore independently.
  • stops at Ponta da Piedade, Sagres and Cape St. Vincent lighthouse.
