The experience
You start at the Tall Cross Alta of the Sanctuary and move through the sites on foot with your guide. The route passes the Shepherds' Roundabout for a photograph, then walks a section of the Way of the Cross (stations 9 through 14, plus the 15th marking the Resurrection) ending at Calvary where a chapel dedicated to Saint Stephen stands. The tour also takes you through the Loca of the Angel, the exact place where the Angel of Peace appeared to the children during the first and third apparitions.
You visit Sister Lúcia's house, built in 1885, where she lived when she was ten years old and witnessed the apparitions at Cova da Iria alongside her cousins. The tour then goes to the Arneiro Well, where the Angel of Peace appeared a second time in summer 1916. Next is the birthplace and home of Francisco and Jacinta Marto, erected in 1888, where you can see the interior of the dwelling where the youngest siblings of the Marto family lived. On the return to the Sanctuary, you pass the church where the shepherd children were baptized, stopping for a photograph without disembarking.
The Basilica of Our Lady of Fátima houses the tombs of the three shepherd children and stands on the exact spot where they played during the first apparition. Inside the Sanctuary itself, you can light a candle or collect water at the sacred space erected in 1919, marking where the children witnessed the heavenly visions on a holm oak tree. The tour is wheelchair accessible throughout, with all areas and surfaces accommodating mobility devices. You can request a wheelchair if needed. Infants and small children can travel in a pram or stroller, and service animals are allowed.
