The Experience

You meet your guide at Lapa Church in Porto (or get picked up from your hotel if you chose that option), then head into the Douro Valley to see the terraced vineyards that make the region distinct. The tour stops at two wineries where you'll learn how Port wine is made and taste samples at each location. The production methods and century-old vines are the real draw here. This is not a quick stop but a chance to understand what goes into the bottles.

After the second winery, you board a boat for a one-hour cruise along the calm waters of the Douro River. This is the pause in the day: time to sit and watch the landscape without moving through it. Then comes lunch with traditional flavors, served at the table, which rounds out the experience of the region's gastronomy. The whole tour takes about ten and a half hours from start to finish.

Your guide speaks English, Portuguese or French depending on which option you book. If you have a hotel pickup, you may be asked to meet your guide at a point no more than a five-minute walk away. Vegetarian meals are available if you request them. Note that the specific wineries visited may change based on availability, though substitutes will be similar in quality and character.
