Step-by-step itinerary
Visit Malapascua and Kalanggaman Islands
- Stop at Malapascua Island
- Relax and wait for boat departure
- Take shared boat to Kalanggaman Island
- Enjoy white sands and clear waters
The experience
You leave your Cebu hotel at 4 a.m. in a private air-conditioned car heading to Maya Port, where you board a shared boat to Malapascua Island. The stop at Malapascua gives you time to grab breakfast on your own before the 9 a.m. departure to Kalanggaman. The boat ride takes roughly 90 minutes, and when you arrive the water is the thing you notice first: turquoise and clear enough to see the bottom. The island itself is narrow, with sandbars stretching from both sides, and the whole day is built around staying in and around that water.
Swimming and snorkeling fill the hours between 10:30 a.m. and noon, when lunch is served. The meal is a semi-buffet spread prepared on the island. After eating, you have another stretch of time in the water before the boat back to Malapascua leaves at 2:30 p.m. The return journey to Maya Port takes an hour, and from there your private car drives you back to Cebu, arriving around 8 p.m. The whole arc (early start, midday on the island, evening return) means you are back at your hotel with the day behind you, not bleeding into dinner plans.
The boat to Kalanggaman is shared if your group is under 15 people, which keeps costs down but also means you are traveling with other visitors. Your guide speaks English and stays with the group throughout. The tour is suitable for all fitness levels, though it is not recommended for pregnant travelers. Breakfast is your own expense at Malapascua, and the 850-peso entrance fee per foreigner is collected when you arrive at the island.

Is this one for you?The 17-hour commitment starts before dawn and ends after dark, so plan the day as your main activity and keep the evening free. If you want to explore Cebu City itself or take a second activity the same day, this tour fills the entire window and leaves no room for either.

Top questions
What happens if it rains?
It may be canceled due to bad weather. If that happens, you're offered another date or a refund. Free cancellation up to 24 h before the start.
How early do I need to wake up for this snorkeling trip from Cebu?
Hotel pickup is at 4 a.m., so you need to be ready before dawn. The early start gets you to Kalanggaman by mid-morning when the water is calmest and the light is best for snorkeling.
What is Kalanggaman Island actually like for snorkeling?
Kalanggaman is known for crystal-clear turquoise water and white sand, with sandbars on both sides of the island. The visibility and shallow waters make it a straightforward snorkeling spot. The island itself is small and narrow, so there is no hiking or exploring beyond the beach and water.
Is breakfast included, or do I need to buy it?
Breakfast is not included. You eat on your own account at Malapascua Island before the boat departs for Kalanggaman at 9 a.m. Lunch on the island is included as a semi-buffet meal.
Will I be snorkeling alone or with other visitors?
The boat to Kalanggaman is shared if your group has fewer than 15 people, so you travel with other visitors. Your English-speaking guide stays with your group throughout the day.
What time do I get back to my Cebu hotel?
The return to your hotel is around 8 p.m., after a full day that starts before sunrise. The long day means you experience both the journey and the island without rushing back early.
