The experience

Multan anchors the first day around its Sufi heritage. Your guide meets you at the pickup point and takes you through the Tomb of Shah Rukn-e-Alam, the Tomb of Bahauddin Zakaria Multani, Fort Kohna Qasim, and a small museum that traces Multan's history. From Damdma you get a bird's-eye view of the city. The day moves through shrines of Shah Shams Sabzwari, Shah Yusaf Gardezi (where his lion and snake are buried at the entrance), Shah Ali Akbar, and the Eidgah Mosque. After lunch you walk the Old Town (gates, Jain Temple, old mosque, and the Hussain Agahi bazaar with its wooden balconies), then visit the famous shopping district. If mud wrestling is happening, your guide will show you an arena.

Day two heads toward Uch Sharif, about 80 to 100 minutes from Multan. This town, founded by Alexander the Great, centers on the Tomb of Jalal-ud-din Surkh Posh Bukhari, who came from Bukhara and spread Islam across the subcontinent. You visit the Tomb of Bibi Jawindi, Ustad Ladla, and the shrine of Makhdoom Jahanian Jahan Gashat, known as the greatest traveller of the world. From there you move to Bahawalpur, the city of palaces and Nawabs, where you see Fareed Gate, the old town, bazars, and the Shahi Mosque. Dinner takes place at Noor Mahal Palace before your hotel transfer.

The final day takes you into Cholistan to Derawar Fort, built by Raja Jajja Bhatti in the 9th century and rebuilt in 1733 by the Abbasi family. You visit the Royal Mosque and reach the Royal Graveyard by camel safari, seeing graves attributed to the Prophet Muhammad's companions. On the return to Bahawalpur you pass Sadiq Garh Palace and Noor Mahal again, and visit the museum and library if open. After lunch, the route back to Multan includes a stop at a blue pottery workshop where artisans hand-paint earthen pots. You arrive in Multan in the evening.
