The experience

The tour starts in Fanja, where the high Hajar Mountains frame the landscape and the traditional souq sits at the center of village life. You'll see the old Fanja settlement from the outside (mud houses and farms built into the terrain), then move to Samail to observe how Omanis live in the countryside, with fresh air and open space that defines the rural rhythm.

Izki brings you into an older village where mud and mountain rock houses cluster among date tree farms. From there, the route opens to banana plantations and date palms, and you walk up to Birkat al Mouz Ruins, ancient structures perched on a mountainside that date back to the 17th century. The ruins sit high enough to give you sight across the planted valleys below.

The final stop is Nizwa Souq, where Omani heritage concentrates in the market stalls and the surrounding architecture. Nizwa Fort and the old wall frame the souq, and the time there is unstructured. You move at your own pace through the vendors and the stone passages. Throughout the day, Omani music plays in the vehicle, and the guide narrates in English or Arabic depending on your preference.
