The experience

The evening opens at Delft's historic weighing house, where you meet your guide and settle in with a starter and your first drink. From there, the walk begins through the old town hall, its tower dates to around 1270, and along the Oude Delft canal past the long butter bridge, the city's smallest facade, Delft's oldest tree, and two former orphanages. You'll reach the Prinsenhof, where William of Orange was killed in 1584, and see the leaning tower from several angles before arriving at restaurant De Centrale, housed in the former Meat Hall on a picturesque corner.

After the main course and another drink, you walk onto the market square to see the New Church and the actual house of Johannes Vermeer, not where most people think it is. The route takes you past the Beestenmarkt, once the animal market and now full of local terraces, then south to the old synagogue. The final stretch passes the old weapons arsenal and a former Dutch East India Company office before you reach De Kurk for dessert and a drink. Your guide leaves you there, and the city's nightlife is less than ten minutes away on foot.
