Trishuli River Rafting from Pokhara: swim, jump and fish
Paddle the Trishuli and choose what happens next
Trishuli 1 Day Rafting is a full-day river activity on Nepal's most popular rafting run, departing from Pokhara with a live English or Hindi-speaking guide, private transport and meals included. You paddle the rapids, swim in the river, fish if you bring a rod, jump from cliffs, and photograph the canyon walls — the guide handles the logistics so you focus on the water.
The Experience
The day starts with private pickup from your Pokhara hotel and a drive to the Trishuli put-in. Once on the water, you're paddling the rapids yourself — not watching from a boat. The guide navigates the route and handles safety; you work the paddle. Between rapids the current slows enough to pull over on the beach, where you can swim, cast a line if you've brought a fishing rod, or just sit in the sun. Cliff jumps happen at a spot the guide knows; you choose whether to climb and leap.
The Trishuli is Nepal's most-run river, which means the rapids are consistent and the guide knows every eddy and hazard. You'll need at least a moderate fitness level — the paddling is real work, and the water is cold. Children from age 12 are welcome. The trip takes a full day, and the drive back to Pokhara is part of it, so plan for an early start and an afternoon return.
Private transport, bottled water, snacks and lunch are included; bring a fishing rod if you want to fish, and wear clothes you don't mind soaking. The guide speaks English or Hindi. Public transport options exist nearby if you prefer to arrange your own ride to the river, though the private pickup saves the logistics of finding the put-in yourself.
What’s included
- Private transportation from your Pokhara hotel to the river and back.
- a live guide in English or Hindi.
- bottled water and snacks throughout the day.
- lunch.
- and guide-provided photos of the trip.

Is this one for you? This is a shared-water activity, not a guided tour — you're paddling the raft yourself, not watching a guide do it, so it suits travelers who want to be active and make decisions in the moment rather than follow a set itinerary. Book this if you have at least moderate fitness and want a full day of movement and choice; skip it if you prefer to sit and be transported.

What's the Trishuli River like for someone who's never rafted before?
The Trishuli has Class II and III rapids, which means fast water and waves but no extreme danger — it's Nepal's most popular run because it's manageable for beginners who are comfortable with physical effort. The guide handles the technical decisions; you paddle and react to the current.
Can I really jump off cliffs, or is that just something they mention?
Cliff jumping happens at a designated spot the guide knows, and it's entirely optional — you choose whether to climb and jump or stay in the boat. Not everyone does it, and the guide won't push you.
How long is the actual time on the water versus driving?
The full day includes pickup from Pokhara, the drive to the river, the rafting itself, and the return drive — plan for roughly eight hours total. The rafting portion is the main event; the transport bookends it.
What happens if I bring my own fishing rod?
You can fish the pools between rapids if you bring a rod — the guide will pull over at good spots. There's no guarantee of a catch, but the river has fish and the guide knows where they hold.
Is this a private group or will I be with other rafters?
This is a private rafting trip, so it's your group and your guide — no strangers in the boat. The private transport is included, so you're not sharing the ride to and from the river either.
What should I know about the cold water and physical demands?
The water is cold year-round, so expect to get soaked and stay wet. You need at least moderate fitness — paddling against the current is sustained work, and swimming in rapids requires comfort in moving water. The activity is not recommended for travelers with spinal injuries, pregnancy, or poor cardiovascular health.
