The experience
The tour starts at your hotel or the port and heads straight into Tangier's residential areas and main streets, passing the King's Palace and the Corniche before reaching Cap Spartel: the point where the Atlantic Ocean and Mediterranean Sea meet. The Hercules cave sits at the edge of this headland, and after you've seen it, you'll ride a camel along the beach near the Atlantic shore. Lunch comes next, then the walking portion begins in the Medina.
On foot through the Medina, you'll move through the Kasbah, Mendoubia Gardens, and Saint Andrews Church, then visit the Old American Legation and the Archaeological Museum, where entry is covered. The guide (fluent in English, Spanish, French or Arabic) walks with you throughout. A café stop at the end gives you time for mint tea, coffee or browsing the local shops before the tour ends.
The whole day runs five hours. A moderate level of fitness helps, since the walking sections cover uneven ground in the old city. Vegetarian lunch is available if you request it when booking. You'll need a current valid passport for the day of travel.
