The experience

Hotel pickup happens around 6pm, giving you a short 10-minute drive to the ranch near the king's palace. Once there, you choose your camel and settle in for the ride: the animals move at a gentle pace, and the guide leads you through the eucalyptus forest and down to the Souss River. The light shifts as you go, and you'll pass the royal palace from the water side. Migratory birds, including flamingos, sometimes appear along the river.

After the ride, you return to the ranch for mint tea and snacks while the sun finishes setting. Dinner follows, eaten in a traditional habitant house on the property. The guide stays with the group throughout, and the whole outing (ride, tea, meal and the drive back to your hotel) takes about two hours.

Children from age 3 can ride. Infants travel in a pram or stroller if needed. The pace is leisurely, and the guide adjusts to the group. Private transportation means you're not waiting for other travelers or sharing the camel with strangers. The ranch arranges everything, and you return to your hotel when the meal ends.
