The experience
Eighteen hours means you leave the paved roads behind. A 4×4 Jeep carries you across golden dunes, fossil beds and hidden oases that standard tours never reach, driven by a Berber nomad who knows the terrain the way locals have for generations. The route avoids the crowded camel camps and well-traveled paths, taking you into the kind of remote Sahara most visitors never see.
As the sun sets, you arrive at a secluded desert camp far from other groups. A traditional Berber dinner is prepared over an open fire. The kind of meal nomads have cooked in the Sahara for centuries. After eating, the evening is yours: stargazing under skies so clear the silence feels like part of the landscape, listening to stories of desert life, or simply sitting with the quiet. You sleep under the open sky or in a simple nomad tent with comfortable bedding provided.
The next morning starts early so you can walk across the dunes and watch the sunrise before heading back to Merzouga. Breakfast and mint tea are included. Your guide speaks English, Spanish, Italian, French and four other languages, so the stories and the route can be told in your own words.
