Step-by-step itinerary
Camel trek and overnight desert stay
- Ride camel into Erg-Chebbi dunes
- Watch sunset in the desert
- Stay overnight in private Berber tent
- Enjoy dinner and Berber music around campfire
- Watch sunrise in the desert
- Have breakfast at the desert camp
The experience
You arrive in Merzouga and mount a camel for the ride into Erg-Chebbi's dunes at sunset. The trek takes you across the sand to a desert camp where you'll stay the night in a private Berber tent. Dinner and tea are served, followed by live Berber music and singing around the campfire under the open sky. The experience is built around the Berber way of life, and the camp sits deep enough into the dunes that the surrounding landscape is sand in all directions.
In the morning, you wake early to watch the sunrise from the dunes before breakfast. The camp provides bottled water throughout, and after eating you have time for sandboarding on the dunes before the camel ride back. The whole experience runs 16 to 18 hours from start to finish. A guide travels with you and speaks English, Spanish or French, so the rhythm and the stories are in your language.
You'll choose your camp level at checkout: the luxury option or the standard camp. Both include the same activities and meals. The difference is in the tent and the camp setup itself. Either way, you're sleeping under the stars in a private tent, not sharing a larger structure, and the privacy is part of what makes the night feel separate from a regular hotel stay.

Is this one for you?The overnight format is what makes the sunset and sunrise both possible in one trip. A day tour would give you one or the other, but sleeping in the camp lets you catch both. If you have a full afternoon and evening free, this fits inside that window and returns you the next morning.
