The experience

You're picked up from your Marrakech hotel and driven 40 minutes into the Agafay Desert in an air-conditioned van, passing small Berber villages and rocky hills as the city fades behind. Once there, you ride a camel through desert trails for 20 minutes, or drive a quad bike instead, or do both: whichever option you booked. The trails pass ancient mud-brick houses and open desert ground, and you move at a pace that lets you take in the landscape rather than rush through it.

As the sun starts to lower, you stop at a desert camp and rest with Moroccan tea and sweets while the light turns warm across the rocks. Dinner comes next: fresh salads, tagines, warm bread and couscous, eaten at the camp with the desert around you. After the meal, the evening shifts into live Berber music and a cultural performance, then a fire show that closes out the night before the driver takes you back to Marrakech.
