The experience
The Hassan II Mosque anchors the morning. At 210 metres, its minaret is the tallest part of Morocco's largest mosque, and the building fuses Islamic architecture with Moroccan and Moorish elements in a way that shapes the whole waterfront. You enter and walk through the interior with your guide, who explains the design and the role the mosque plays in the city. From there, the tour moves into the Old Medina, where the Jewish quarter preserves Casablanca's Jewish past. The city is home to over 30 synagogues, and roughly 5,000 Jews still live here. Your guide walks you through the Mellah, the historic Jewish neighbourhood, pointing out the monuments and shrines that mark centuries of settlement.
A private museum with Moroccan artwork comes next, housed in the former home of businessman Abderrahman Slaoui. You browse the collection at your own pace, then pause for traditional Moroccan mint tea before moving on. Notre Dame de Lourdes Church, with its European-inspired architecture, stands out visibly against the surrounding Moroccan buildings. You'll step inside on most days (though on Sundays it's closed except during Mass, so you'll view it from outside). The Museum of Moroccan Judaism, with 2,000 years of Moroccan Jewish history in videos, art and documents, is the final major stop, entry is included. If you're touring on a Saturday or Sunday when the museum is closed, you visit a local synagogue opened specially for your group, plus the Heritage Interpretation Museum instead. Your guide escorts you back to Mohammed V Square by private taxi and leaves you with recommendations for eating and exploring the rest of the city.
