The day starts at 9am with pickup from your hotel in Marrakech. A driver takes you south in an air-conditioned 4WD vehicle or minivan, climbing into the Moulay Brahim Gorges and stopping at Asni, a village known for its Saturday market. From there you cross into a green valley that stays cool even in summer heat, arriving at Imlil: a small settlement at the base of Toubkal, Morocco's highest mountain. This is where the vehicle stops and the walking begins.

Your local mountain guide meets you in Imlil and leads you south on foot toward Aroumd, a Berber village set higher in the Western High Atlas foothills. The trail branches in multiple directions, following streams and mountain paths. You walk at a pace the guide sets, moving through the landscape without the rush of a group tour. Lunch is served in a Berber house in either Aroumd or the nearby village of Tamatert: a meal prepared locally, eaten where people actually live. After lunch and a rest, you return to Imlil, get back in the vehicle, and drive to Marrakech, arriving in late afternoon.

The 30-minute camel ride happens during the drive, breaking up the vehicle time and giving you a different angle on the terrain.
