The Experience

Six hours total, starting with a pickup from your Marrakech hotel. The quad bikes need no prior experience — you'll roar across the Agafay plateau for an hour, the landscape stark and open around you. The bikes themselves handle the terrain; what you're managing is the throttle and the line you choose across the desert floor.

After the ride, you'll change into a touareg dress and cheich (the scarf that wraps around your head and face to shield you from the sun and wind), then mount a camel for an hour through the arid lands. The pace is slower, the vantage different — you're sitting higher, moving at the animal's rhythm instead of your own. Tea arrives before or after, depending on which meal you've chosen. Lunch brings tajine (chicken or vegetable), salads, Berber bread, mint tea and seasonal fruit; dinner is the same menu in the evening light. Everything happens in a Berber tent, so you're eating where the light and the temperature shift as the day moves.

The air-conditioned vehicle collects you at the end and returns you to your hotel. A guide in English or French stays with the group throughout — small enough that the day doesn't feel rushed, large enough that you're not alone out there.
