experience

What’s the experience like?

The day kicked off with a cool breeze rolling in from the Atlantic as we drove south of Agadir. Our guide, Hassan, pointed out stretches of empty sand—no crowds, just the sound of waves and a few fishermen mending nets near the village. The air smelled faintly salty, mixed with wild herbs crushed underfoot. We stopped to watch a couple of kids chase each other along the dunes while their parents sorted the morning’s catch.

Next up was Youssef ben Tachfine Dam. I’d never seen an artificial lake this long—about seven kilometers, Hassan said. The water shimmered under the midday sun, and you could spot birds skimming low over the surface. There’s something peaceful about standing there, hearing nothing but wind and distant voices from folks picnicking nearby.

Lunch was a real highlight. We sat cross-legged in a Berber family’s courtyard, sharing couscous and tajine straight from clay pots. The mint tea tasted sweeter than usual—maybe it was the way our host poured it from high above the glass or just the company. Afterward, we nibbled on fresh oranges and figs picked right from their garden.

In Tiznit, narrow alleys led us past old ramparts into silver workshops where artisans hammered bracelets by hand. I tried on a ring—didn’t buy it, but watching them work was worth it alone. The medina felt lived-in; shopkeepers chatted in Tamazight and French, and you could smell grilled sardines wafting from a corner café.
