Step-by-step itinerary

Wine tasting and traditional food tour

  • Depart from accommodation
  • Pass through Budva city
  • Arrive at Šipčanik cellar
  • Taste three wines and bruschetta
  • Continue to Kopitović family winery
  • Tour winery with owner
  • Enjoy wine degustation with traditional lunch

The experience

Eight hours is enough to move through two wineries without rushing. You start from your accommodation with a private driver and travel through Budva, the coast's most visited city, then inland to Podgorica and on to Šipčanik. The drive itself is part of the day: you see the shift from coastal towns to wine country, and the driver speaks English, so the route is not silent time in a van.

At Šipčanik, Montenegro's largest vineyard, you spend an hour and a half tasting three wines: two from the classic line (Montenegrin Krstač and Montenegrin Vranac) and one special reserve (Vranac Pro Corde), paired with bruschetta topped with Njeguški cheese, olive oil and rosemary. The cellar itself is the setting. You are not in a tasting room but in the working space where the wine is kept. From there you move to Kopitović's family winery, where the owner leads the tour and explains how Montenegrin wine-making works. Lunch follows: a traditional meal called sač, cooked in the metal dome the dish is named for, with veal, potatoes, vegetables, seasonal salad, bread and dessert. A second tasting of three wines (one white and two red) accompanies it.

The vehicle is air-conditioned and carries bottled water. Pickup and all fees are included. You need only show up at your hotel at the start time.

Is this one for you?Eight hours is a full morning and afternoon, so plan the rest of your day around the early departure and late return to your accommodation. The route works best if you have flexibility on timing. The drive to Šipčanik takes you inland and away from the coast, so this is not a half-day add-on to beach time.

Top questions

What wines will I taste on this tour?

You taste four wines across the two stops: at Šipčanik, Montenegrin Krstač and Montenegrin Vranac from the classic line, plus Vranac Pro Corde as a special reserve. At Kopitović's winery, one white wine and two red wines paired with lunch.

What is sač and how is it cooked?

Sač is a traditional Montenegrin dish cooked in a metal dome of the same name. Your lunch includes veal, potatoes, vegetables, seasonal salad, bread and dessert all prepared this way, giving the meal its characteristic slow-cooked flavor.

How much time do I spend at each winery?

You spend an hour and a half at Šipčanik for the tasting and cheese course, then move to Kopitović's family winery for the owner-led tour and lunch. The second stop takes up the remainder of the day before the drive back to your accommodation.

Is the tour private, or will I be with other travelers?

This is a private tour, so your group travels alone with the driver and guide. No other bookings are combined into your departure.
