The experience
The boat leaves from either Cancun or Isla Mujeres depending on which option you choose, and once the crew briefs you on what's ahead, you're heading into open water to find whale sharks. You get two separate opportunities to slip into the water and swim alongside them: the largest fish in the world, moving through the Mexican Caribbean. The crew stays with you the whole time. They've logged more than 20 years guiding this activity and speak both English and Spanish. All snorkeling equipment comes on board, so you don't bring your own.
After the whale shark swims, the boat takes you to a shallow reef where the water is clear enough to see everything without the depth. Then you stop at one of the beaches near Isla Mujeres or Isla Che, and the crew prepares a meal on the boat: fish ceviche, guacamole, tortilla chips, seasonal fruit, and drinks throughout the day. Water, soft drinks and beer all included. The boat has all federal permits for the activity and is built for safety and comfort on the open sea.
The crew operates their own boats rather than working through resellers, which means you're booking directly with the people who run the activity every day. Pickup is included if you're departing from Cancun or Riviera Maya. If you're already in Isla Mujeres, you meet at the pier there instead.
