Three cenotes means three chances to snorkel inside subterranean caves the same day.

A full-day snorkeling experience in the Tulum area that combines riding an ATV, E-Bike or scooter through downtown and jungle to three cenotes (natural water-filled sinkholes sacred to the Maya), where you swim and snorkel in each one. The guide shares the history and significance of each cenote, and lunch is Mayan-style. Pickup is included from nearby hotels. Children from age 6 are welcome. The ride itself is part of the experience, not just transport to it.

Step-by-step itinerary

ATV tour with cenote swims and lunch

  • Ride E-Bikes through downtown Tulum
  • Swim and snorkel at Gran Cenote
  • Ride E-Bikes through jungle to Cenote Cristal
  • Swim, snorkel, and enjoy local Mayan lunch
  • Swim and snorkel at Rustic Cenote Escondido

The experience

The cenotes around Tulum sit in a limestone landscape riddled with underground caves and freshwater pools. Your guide rides with you from the headquarters through downtown Tulum to Gran Cenote first, where you enter the water and snorkel. From there you ride deeper into the jungle to Cenote Cristal, where you swim again and eat a local Mayan lunch with snacks and water. A third cenote (Cenote Escondido, also called Mayan Blue) rounds out the day with more snorkeling before you head back. The whole route takes six hours.

You choose your vehicle before you go: an ATV, a scooter, or an E-Bike. Two people can share an ATV or scooter if you prefer, which cuts the cost. Snorkeling gear, a heavy-duty lock and chain, and a backpack are all included. The guide speaks English or Spanish and explains what each cenote meant to the Maya people as you move through the day. Pickup from hotels in the Tulum area is built in. If you're staying north of Tulum (between Playa del Carmen and Puerto Aventuras), there's an extra fee per person, which you arrange at checkout.

The caves themselves are the draw. Cenote Cristal is the most natural of the three, and Gran Cenote is the most famous. You're not just looking at them from the edge. You're in the water at each stop, with time to explore. The snorkeling is in freshwater, not the ocean, and the visibility is usually clear. Subterranean passages connect some of these pools, and your guide points out the geology and the history as you move between them.

Is this one for you?Choose the ATV if you want raw power through jungle terrain; pick the scooter for a lighter, more nimble ride; go with the E-Bike if you prefer pedaling with electric assist. You can share an ATV or scooter with a travel partner to split the cost. The full day and the riding itself suit travelers who are comfortable on two wheels and want the cenotes as part of an active experience, not just a swimming stop.

Top questions

What languages is the guide in?

Live guide in English and Spanish.

Can children come?

Yes. Ticket types: Youth (10 to 17 years); Child (6 to 9 years). Under 6: they can't be included in the booking.

What happens if it rains?

It may be canceled due to bad weather. If that happens, you're offered another date or a refund. Free cancellation up to 24 h before the start.

What's the difference between the ATV, scooter, and E-Bike options?

All three take the same route through Tulum and the jungle to the three cenotes. The ATV is the most powerful for rougher terrain; the scooter is lighter and nimbler; the E-Bike is electric-assisted pedaling. Two people can share an ATV or scooter, which lowers the per-person cost. Pick based on how much riding experience you want and whether you prefer engine power or pedaling.

Can I snorkel if I've never done it before?

Yes. Snorkeling gear is included and your guide will be with you at each cenote. The water in the cenotes is calm and freshwater, not ocean waves. Children from age 6 can join. If you have spinal injuries or poor cardiovascular health, this tour is not recommended because of the riding and the physical activity in the water.

What are the cenotes like when you get there?

Gran Cenote is the most visited and has clear water and a wide opening to the sky. Cenote Cristal is more natural and less developed, with a smaller entrance. Cenote Escondido, also called Mayan Blue, is rustic and remote. All three are freshwater sinkholes with subterranean cave systems. You swim and snorkel in each one, and the guide explains their significance to the Maya civilization.

Is lunch included, and what kind of food is it?

Yes, a Mayan-style local lunch is included at Cenote Cristal, along with snacks and water throughout the day. The lunch reflects traditional Yucatan cuisine.

How far is the ride, and is it rough terrain?

The route is six hours total, including time in the water and lunch. You start in downtown Tulum and ride through the jungle to reach the cenotes. The terrain varies from paved streets to jungle paths. The guide rides with you, so you're not navigating alone.

What happens if I'm staying in Playa del Carmen or further north?

Pickup is included from the Tulum area. If you're staying north of Tulum (between Bahía Puerto Príncipe and Playa del Carmen, or further north to Iberostar Grand Paraíso), there's an additional per-person fee for the longer pickup distance, which you'll select at checkout.
