The experience
The day starts with your choice of vehicle: a scooter, an ATV, or an e-bike (two riders can share one ATV or scooter if you prefer). Your guide rides ahead and leads you through Tulum's downtown streets and then into the wilderness toward the cenotes scattered through the rainforest. The route itself is part of the experience. You're not watching from a bus, you're navigating the roads and taking in the landscape at your own pace while the guide handles navigation and timing.
Each cenote is different. Gran Cenote, the first stop, is the most famous and lets you ease into the water. Cenote Cristal comes next with time to snorkel and swim, plus snacks and water to refuel. Cenote Escondido (also called Mayan Blue) is the final cenote, and after you snorkel there, the group heads to a local spot for an authentic Mayan lunch. Your guide shares details about the cenotes' significance to the Maya people and the geology of these natural sinkholes as you move between them. Snorkeling equipment is provided, and a backpack and lock come with the e-bikes and scooters so you can secure your belongings at each stop.
The full day runs seven hours from pickup at your hotel. If you're staying north of Tulum, there may be an additional transportation fee ($15–$35 USD per person depending on distance), which you'll choose at checkout. The pace is set by the group, and the guide handles all the logistics. You just show up ready to ride and swim.
