The Experience

So yeah, you're standing at the top of the first line and your guide is checking your harness for the third time, and you're thinking this is either the best decision or the worst one, and then you step off and suddenly it doesn't matter anymore because you're flying. The Canopy EcoPark near Puerto Vallarta has 11 zip lines strung across the jungle — some of them stretch nearly half a mile — and they drop you up to 700 feet above the canopy and river below. The whole zipline section takes about an hour, and the guides are certified, so they know what they're doing even if you're white-knuckling the handles.

After you come down from the last line, you've got two hours of free time, which is when most people head to the river to actually cool off and swim. There's a restaurant at the park, so you can grab something if you're hungry before the formal lunch happens. The guides give you a safety briefing when you first arrive — they walk you through how everything works, where the bathrooms are, all that — and then you get a welcome drink and you're ready to go. It's not rushed, which matters because you want to actually feel steady before you're clipped into a harness.

Lunch comes after the swimming and the hanging around, and then there's a tequila tasting — not a sip-and-move-on thing, but an actual tasting where they explain what you're drinking. Round-trip transport from Puerto Vallarta is included, so you don't have to figure out how to get there or back, and you can shower and use the lockers before you leave. Bring a bathing suit, sunscreen, and something you don't mind getting sweaty in, and leave your phone in the locker if you're worried about it.
